Yesterday was a total bust for me.
I had a to-do list, a full plate, and…checked off maybe one thing.
Maybe it was Sunday Night Football fatigue (Steelers girl here), or just one of those brain fog days where my brain couldn’t see a path forward on anything.
If you’re in a job search, you have likely felt the same. Some mornings you wake up ready to go. Other days? It feels like the job search – of life – ran you over.
So, what do you do when you’re just not getting it done?
Here are five strategies to beat the “Can’t Get It Done” days – I should have taken my own advice yesterday:
- Walk – Step away. Do something that lifts you up.
- Write – Get those thoughts out of your head and onto paper. It settles the mind.
- Wiggle – Move your body. Even a few minutes of stretching can refocus you.
- Wonder – learn something new. TED Talk, YouTube, podcast – curiosity didn’t kill the cat – it gave it nine lives – and a podcast subscription.
- Work on your space. A tidy desk = a clearer mind.
And most of all? Don’t beat yourself up.
We all have off days – at work, at home, and in life.
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about how we respond.
The next time you have a “Can’t Get It Done” day, remember: Walk, Write, Wiggle, Wonder and Work for a path to help you get something – anything – done.
